The performer and artist Glimour talks to MICHELLE about carving out her niche as a female drag artist.
From a very young age, London based Glimour knew she wanted to sing and perform. Then the drag and cabaret scene piqued her interest and when she found that she could do a cabaret drag course and debut on stage, she jumped at the chance.
"Glimour has given me the opportunity to live my dream on the stage and now it's nearly 3 years since I debuted and I haven't stopped."
How is it being a female in this world? "I am a queer female drag queen and cabaret singer.
By being visible and working successfully in the scene I am proving that the art of drag surpasses gender, and that anyone who is respectful to the art form can and should do drag!"

"The cabaret community is very inclusive on the whole, I've found most performers are aware that female drag queens have existed and will continue to exist in the scene. It's sometimes audience members that may be surprised but I am happy to share my type of drag with them!
I identify as asexual and aromantic, a queer identity that is often misunderstood and forgotten in the lgbtqia+ community, so I like to be visible to other asexual/aromantic people and be a good role model as visibility in the arts is very important."
"inspired by the beautiful glamorous women of old Hollywood" |
Glimour is inspired by the beautiful glamorous women of old Hollywood, both real and fictitious; such as Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Jessica Rabbit. She then adds a touch of modern to her look by referencing fashion models and fashion editorials.

Her choice of stage outfits are inspiring. How do you style for your acts? "I like to tailor my outfit to the setlist" she says. "Are the songs sexy or sultry? Are they melancholy? Or are they more fun people pleasers? Then I think about the venue. For Glimour, more is more, I love anything sparkling; sequins, glitter, beading, big glamorous jewels and often look for modern twists to classic silhouettes."

You chose to wear one of the dresses from our fabulous 1920s inspired collection for your photoshoot? "Yes, I wanted to channel 1920s glamour but have an editorial feel with the makeup. The Josephine dress fitted that brief perfectly, I love black and silver as a colour combo and the beading is so beautiful as it catches the light. It's a stunning dress for both photos and on stage.
So, what's been happening performance-wise? Glimour replies excitedly, "I co-produced a Jazz drag cabaret in November called 'And all that Yaazzz!'. It was a glorious evening filled with live jazz vocals from three stunning drag performers and singers including myself.
As for 2025 my calendar is pretty open at the moment. So if anyone would like a glamorous live vocalist drag performer at their event, please let me know!
